Director’s Notes

South City Theatre has always had a special place in my heart.  I fondly remember the ‘warehouse days’ off exit 238.  It was a magical time when Francie (now Pender) and Alan Gardner’s dream became a magical reality.

Sure, the shows were good.  Folks from all over made the trek down to Alabaster to do good work.  It was also a place of learning and respecting the craft.  I am thrilled that the legacy continues.

Lisa Ponder contacted me about doing this show.  I am so glad she did.

This cast and crew has been AMAZING to work with.  They’ve worked so hard and we’ve had some fun along the way!  OK, it’s been LOTS of fun! The many talents shared with you are incredible.  I’m excited for our audience to see the show!

Thanks for the opportunity to bring Doublewide, Texas to life in Pelham.

I hope you enjoy the show!  I wish you all a joyous holiday season!  Happy Holidays!  Happy Solstice!  Merry Christmas!  Support the Arts in 2025!

Cast and Crew Bios

Alex Daigler is happy to be back on the stage after a 10 year hiatus! She’s had the pleasure of working behind the scenes at SCT for the last year. Her day-to-day involves working as a physical therapist, working towards her reading & Duolingo goals, and spending time with her family, friends and, more importantly, her cat!

Kathy Scruggs (Joveta Crumpler) is so happy to be back at South City with another great cast of both new and returning friends. Previous productions here include Wild Women of Winedale, Elvis People, Christmas Belles, Octette Bridge Club, Our Town, and Harvey. This is her first time working with Mary Anne as a director and what a treat!  “I love it any time I can be in a Jones Hope Wooten show and this one doesn’t disappoint. I hope everyone laughs as much watching it as we did get ready for it.” Special thanks to Derek who is always there to run lines and make sure I have dinner before rehearsal – love you!

Kevin Garrett (Harley) A sexy accountant by day, Kevin has been involved with Community theatre for over 25 years in over 30 productions. Some of his favorite performances have included: Willie Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), The Old Man (A Christmas Story), Freddy/Phillip (Noises Off), and Elwood P. Dowd (Harvey), as well as many others. He is particularly proud of being the other half of the Lunts of Woodward Road with his wife of 38 years Mary Anne and is very happy to be back at South City in her production.

Marlene Wallace Berndt (Caprice Crumpler) I am thrilled to be part of this fun production with this amazing cast. This will be my 11th production in the Birmingham area, my 6th at South City Theatre. Previous favorite productions include The Women, Love, Loss and What I Wore, Dearly Departed, Hallelujah Girls, Almost Maine, Second Samuel, Christmas Belles, and Covering Dish. Michael Wilbanks (Nash Sloggett) is thankful for another opportunity to have some fun at South City Theater! It’s always a joy to spend time with such talented and lovely people like those with whom I’m sharing a stage. When Michael’s not on stage or running the SCT box office, he’s playing the pied piper with his wonderful gifted students at Thompson Middle School. “Thank you, all, for coming to see our show!”

Trent is a Multimedia Artist who has had a love for the art of theatre for much of his life. While working to get his degree in Studio Art from Samford University, Trent also minored in Theatre, which gave him the opportunity to perform in such shows as Swan Song and 52nd Street Comics, as well as a variety of ten minute plays, and more recently he starred in Homewood Theatre’s production of But Why Bump Off Barnaby?
