Wetumpka Depot Players Bring 84 Charing Cross Road to SCT

South City Theatre is proud to welcome the Wetumpka Depot Players production of 84 Charing Cross Road to Pelham.

84 Charing Cross Road is the charming story of two strangers who connect through letter writing over a twenty-year period. Based on a true story, the production features a struggling New York playwright who begins a correspondence in 1949 with the manager of a London antiquarian bookstore, located at the address of the show’s title. Bright humored and affectionate, the play gives audiences a glimpse of post war America and London as the two progress from business acquaintances to dear friends.Depot Artistic Director, Kristy Meanor, will play the role of Helene Hanff and Scott Page, will play the role of Frank Doel.

” We are excited to bring this intimate and charming show to our audiences. It’s been fun to go back to this time period when a relationship was built on letter writing,” said Meanor. “Scott and I have had fun exploring this world when life was slower without the instant communication means we enjoy today. Polar opposites, Frank and Helene’s first communications were based on discussion of books but eventually it led to more intimate discussions of their worlds. It’s such a tender, moving story and it also gives us a glimpse into the world during this 22-year span of history. It’s fun to time travel on stage as the sound cues transition from the Andrews Sisters to the Beatles!”
